These weeknotes are mostly brought to you by spite, and as a way to stop tidying the house for the umpteenth time for another house viewing that may or may not get confirmed tomorrow morning. I’ve had a 3/4 week hiatus (I lose count) because of various reasons, mostly a combination of my wife having back problems and our house needing much more frequent cleans in the hope that we’ll find a new buyer *cry*.

This week I:

  • Thought a lot about whether or not ‘The most efficient and effective method of conveying information to and within a development team is face-to-face conversation.’ Because there are some times I really think writing some things down helps a lot.
  • Pondered the role of show and tells, and whether we could be using them more effectively (or in some cases just doing them at all).
  • Finally managed to find someone who might actually have have measured how much energy we use from all the sharepoint data we store at Co-op.
  • Agreed a rough plan for how to present & facilitate a workshop on digital sustainability for the Digital, Data and Technology leadership team.
  • Proposed we do a similar session with the rest of the teams (or as many as want to) at our upcoming internal conference.
  • Made a fair chunk of progress on re-organising our internal user research wiki – its not ‘open’ yet because its still very much work in progress, but I hope longer term there is lots that can be made open. I mostly spent time writing two pages, one on how to capture good notes from user research sessions and how to analyse the outputs of user research sessions.
  • Reflected on how little the teams I’m working with need me…and hoped that was a positive thing.
  • Pondered whether I should start properly supporting Newcastle United and following football again…looks like it might be about time.
  • Hoped we have some positive news on the house front. Lets see what the update is next week…

Not so much a long read this week, but a long listen:

Last week I discovered Snarky Puppy (via Kottke’s Larnell Lewis appreciation) and this live set on youtube is still blowing my mind. The linked track is 10 mins long, but the whole set is something else.
